Transgender Clinical Pathway Study

Transgender Clinical Pathway Study

Project Dates:

2023/2024

This study is looking at issues for transgender adults, youth, & their whānau/family around health and wellbeing in the Whanganui region. We want to know what is working well for you and how the system can be improved for you. Your voice will help us to understand the strengths and resources necessary to help transgender people manage their health well.

Information for very young (3-13) interview participants

Tēnā koe,

My name’s Katie and I’m looking at transgender children and adults and what you need from your doctors and nurses.

You can take part if you want to, but it is your choice. If you don’t want to take part, you don’t even have to tell me why. If you do want to take part now, but change your mind later, you can just tell me or another trusted adult. They will be part of the chat with us.

This tells you why we are doing the study and what taking part means. We’ll go through this together and I’ll answer any questions you have.

If you are happy to have a chat with me, you will be asked to put your name on an Assent Form. This tells me you want to take part. A trusted adult will put their name on it too to say they are happy for you to chat to me.

What do I need to do?

I will have a chat with you and your parent or caregiver. I’ll ask questions about what happens when you go to the doctor, what you like, and what might make your visits to the doctor even better. I will voice record our chat on my phone. Nobody else will listen to our chat. It will only be used to help me remember what you have said.

If you feel sad or uncomfortable during the chat, we can take a break and decide whether to keep going.

What happens to what I say?

This research is private. This means that I will know who you are but nobody else will be able to hear what you have told me, unless they are working with me. People working with me have to keep our chat private too.

If I have any questions or problems, who can I contact?
